BIO: Dr. Hong Yang is the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. He is also the inaugural Vice President for International Affairs and Charles J. Smiley Professor of Environmental Sciences at Bryant University in Rhode Island. His academic interests lie in the study of the force, rate, and impact of climate change, environmental change and civilization, plant evolution, and international education. Dr. Yang has published over 100 scientific articles and is a co-editor of three books. He is interested in integrating empirical scientific data with historical records to examine natural forces and factors shaping the Chinese civilization. Educated both in China and the United States, Dr. Yang holds a doctorate in geological sciences from University of Idaho and received his postdoctoral training at University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Dr. Yang received more than 20 scientific awards, honors, and recognitions, including elected fellows by Geological Society of America, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, and Harvard Radcliffe Institute.
